One Punch Man: A Superhero Manga and Anime Series That Breaks the Mold

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a superhero who can defeat any enemy with a single punch? Sounds awesome, right? Well, not for Saitama, the protagonist of One Punch Man, a manga and anime series that parodies and challenges the conventions of the superhero genre. In this article, we will explore what makes One Punch Man such a unique and entertaining series, why it has gained a huge fan base around the world, and how you can enjoy it yourself.

What is One Punch Man?

One Punch Man is a Japanese superhero manga and anime series created by ONE, a pseudonymous webcomic artist. It tells the story of Saitama, a bald-headed hero who has become so powerful that he can defeat any opponent with a single punch. However, this also makes him bored and disillusioned with his hero life, as he no longer feels any thrill or challenge in his fights. Along with his cyborg disciple Genos, he joins the Hero Association, a professional organization that ranks and employs superheroes to fight evil. He also encounters various other heroes and villains, some of whom admire him, challenge him, or mock him for his appearance and rank.

The origin and premise of the series

ONE started One Punch Man as a webcomic in 2009, as a hobby and a way to practice his drawing skills. He uploaded his chapters online for free, without any professional editing or publishing. Despite his simple and rough art style, his webcomic gained popularity for its hilarious and original story. As of 2020, it has over 130 chapters and 100 million views.

In 2012, ONE teamed up with Yusuke Murata, a renowned manga artist known for his work on Eyeshield 21, to create a digital manga remake of One Punch Man. Murata redraws ONE's story with his detailed and dynamic art style, while ONE supervises the plot and dialogue. The manga is serialized on Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump website, and has been collected into 27 tankōbon volumes as of 2020. The manga has also been licensed by Viz Media for an English release.
